September Orchestra News

TODA - Texas Orchestra Director Association

On August 6th, right before the 2023-2024 school year began, Reedy Orchestra officers attended the Texas Orchestra Directors Association at Newman Smith High School. The event lasted about 7 hours and included orchestra officer presentations, icebreaker games, and seminars from esteemed guest speakers and UT Arlington music majors. It was a great way for orchestra officers to get to know each other better and grow their musical knowledge!

Orchestra Decorating Days

On August 7 & 8, many orchestra officers decorated the orchestra room with colorful posters. This year's Reedy Orchestra theme is Greek Mythology, and to portray this in the orchestra room, students made a birthday wall with students' birthdays pertaining to zodiac signs and corresponding Greek gods/goddesses, practice rooms with posters relating to Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades, and much more! We can't wait to continue the Greek Mythology theme throughout this year!

Bach to School Bash

After school on Friday, August 11, Reedy Orchestra hosted the annual Bach to School Bash social. The event spanned from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. and began with pizza in the orchestra room until students transitioned to the B.F. Phillips park. Students enjoyed Kona Ice, hanging out with their peers, and engaging in a snowball fight to cool off from the heat!

Breakfast Club Social

On Friday, September 15, Reedy Orchestra students arrived at school at 8:30 a.m. for Breakfast before class. Students brought drinks, fruit, and different pastries, and it was a great event for students to spend time together!

Trivia Night Social

After school on September 22, Reedy Orchestra students went to the Lecture Hall to participate in an orchestra-themed Trivia Night social. Students were sorted into different groups and could choose questions from categories such as music theory, Reedy Orchestra facts, and composers. The night lasted from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., and it was an overall very lively and exciting social!

TASB Performance - Texas Association of School Boards

On Friday, September 29th, Reedy Symphonic Orchestra performed at the Texas Association of School Boards convention. They performed pieces such as "A Million Dreams" and "Pure Imagination," accompanied by Frisco student singers, dancers, band members, and actors.

Symphonic Orchestra had been preparing for this performance through many advisory and after-school rehearsals, and there were about 5,000 attendees to the final performance at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas. Overall, Reedy Orchestra did a great job of representing the Frisco Education Art Department!
